The Art Of Living With Amelia Maxwell
We spent a morning at art advisor Amelia Maxwell’s vibrant and warm London home, talking about championing women in art, style & living each moment truly feeling alive.
1. Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m Amelia – a mother to two girls and an art advisor based in London. I founded Amelia Maxwell Limited about five and a half years ago after a long stint working for a gallery in Mayfair. This was where I built my experience and is crucial to where I am now especially since the gallery was very much male-dominated. The larger shows were often by male artists and it fed my interest and passion to give a platform to female artists, both emerging and established. It's been an amazing experience so far. I have loved being able to connect with clients and artists and nurture a supportive community that is women-led. Transparency is really important to me, in both business and art.

2. How would you define your relationship with your art/practice?
My relationship with my practice means everything to me. It's having that creative outlet. Art comes in many forms to different people – sculpture, fashion, and more but what’s common across these mediums is its ability to release and be confronted by something that's either very uplifting or something that makes you feel deeply. It makes you feel alive!
3. If art is subjective, what does it mean to you? How has it evolved over the years?
I feel truly lucky that I get to be in touch with art every day, a constant reminder for the living to truly be alive. I think without it, life would be incredibly, incredibly dull. I get to build amazing working relationships with artists. It helps me move through life feeling connected and present.
4. What’s fashion to you?
Describe your personal style. Fashion to me is probably equally as important as art. And just like art, it makes you feel alive. It is an extension of yourself! What I choose to wear can change how I feel on a day-to-day basis. It is both an internal and external projection of who you are.

5. Last but not least, what about Buna Studio and our clothing do you like the most?
I love and live in dresses — floaty and colourful with delicate details. So Buna Studio is very much in tune with my personal style. I found that the aesthetic is quite similar to an artist I work closely with called Lucy Wayne, who has the most delicate watercolour paintings.
