The name Buna means handwork in the literal sense, creating the backbone for a slow-paced, mindful and personalised aesthetic that the brand has inculcated over the years. Each Buna garment is a play of sheer fabrics defining a life of breath-ability, light and airiness that it wants its wearers to be a part of. With every product we create, we want you to savour each thread, each thought that goes into it. To be washed over by a feeling of familiarity and serenity like one feels with the smell of the ocean and the sound of the waves gently caressing the shores. To feel as free as the summer breeze that blows through the pines on a hilltop. To be overcome by a feeling of nostalgia, of home, as evoked by the crinkles of our grandmother’s warm smile. Every string, strung together creates the harmonious lull of the Buna Aesthetic put together to wash you over with calmness and serenity.
Buna is about slow living with sustainability at its heart. For us the process is as important as the product. Our story is a collective narrative of all the makers whose shared efforts culminate in a beautiful legacy. Our fibre and fabric comes from small artisanal communities in West Bengal, Kutch, Rajasthan and Gujarat who weave the story of Buna. Each garment is carefully handcrafted in our studio in Delhi with hand embroidered details added before it completes its journey in your wardrobe, ready to be a part of your story. Buna garments have an easy breeziness to them synonymous to their origins of slow living. The Buna Aesthetic combines the purity of handmade with an attentive use of materials and artistic minimalism.
As we live in isolation for nearly a month now, it comes to our realisation how much we take human touch and connect for granted, one of the grounding values of our life at Buna. As we are confined indoors, not being able to do what we love in our studio space, we realise the value of interacting with our team on a day-to-day basis. We have a grown appreciation for all our artisans, our tailors, our embroiderers who lend their human artistic touch, day in and day out to form the story of the Buna Aesthetic, lending their tunes to the harmony of Buna.
